Early Access Thursday

A small flurry of new Early Access titles on Steam this week - here are my top 5:

TOXIKK by Reakktor Studios
FRAG LIKE IT'S 1999! TOXIKK plays as if today's military shooters never existed. The game combines the simple and intuitive mechanics of old-school FPS giants with a fresh setting, slick graphics and our vision to carefully evolve the genre with some new ideas elaborated with Arena-FPS enthusiasts.

Price - £12.59 or £39.99 for a 4-pack

My Opinion - A good looking FPS that has game-play that is a throwback to shooters of the past (in a good way).  It particularly reminds me of the good old days of Unreal Tournament that I spent a lot of my teenage years playing.  I think this might be the first FPS I will buy for a long time.

Stranded Deep by Beam Team Games
Take the role of a plane crash survivor stranded somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. Experience terrifying encounters both above and below an endless environment. Come face to face with some of the most life threatening scenarios that will result in a different experience each time you play.

Scavenge. Discover. Survive.

Price - £10.99

My Opinion - There are a lot of survival games out there but I love the idea of trying to survive on your own on an island.  Most importantly, there are no zombies! Reviews have been very positive already.

Woolfe - The Red Hood Diaries by GRIN
Woolfe - The Red Hood Diaries is a cinematic fable featuring a vengeful Red Riding Hood. All grown up, cried out and armed with an axe, our heroine embarks on an odyssey to avenge the death of her parents. Buckle up for a surprising take on the Red Riding Hood tale as you know it, some good old-fashioned action platforming, fun combo-based hack ‘n slash combat and rewarding environment puzzles exploring the attractive fantasy universe.

Price - £6.99

My Opinion - This game looks beautiful and it the story is well written.  For the price, this is definitely worth a look.

Armello by League of Geeks
Armello is a swashbuckling adventure that combines the strategic play of card and board games with RPG elements.

As a hero from one of the clans of Armello, you'll quest, scheme, explore, vanquish monsters, and face off against other players, with one ultimate end goal in mind — storming the palace and becoming King or Queen of Armello.

Price - £18.99

My Opinion - an interesting combination of board game, TCG, strategy and RPG. The artwork looks nice and the game-play complex enough to satisfy strategy buffs.

Perfect Golf by Perfect Parallel
PerfectGolf is a next generation, indie developed, single player, multiplayer golf game. Built with the Unity Engine, Perfect Golf provides a truly immersive experience centered on stunning visuals and hyper-realistic game play. The game will have practice, single player, and multiplayer game modes where you will be able to use our 'in-game' lobby and matchmaking system to go head to head.

Price - £14.99

My Opinion - This looks like potentially the best golf game ever - of course you will probably have to like golf in the first place to enjoy this.  The idea of content being community-driven is potentially exciting and could give it legs for the future.
